Proof of Work, Not Followers: My One-Person Company OS

25-50 AI mini-apps in 12-18 months, each with a 30-second demo, a build log and monetization paths. Trust built on real work — letting the portfolio itself reveal what deserves all-in.

Proof of Work, Not Followers: My One-Person Company OS

I am an independent developer. I have tried partnered development, hackathons, crypto tooling — and in May 2026 I overturned all of those routes and committed to a single main line with a name: the AI Application Cookbook.

The plan is simple: 25 to 50 small AI applications in 12 to 18 months. Each demo solves one concrete problem and ships with a 30-second demo video, a build log, and three monetization paths — self-serve, SaaS subscription, or commissioned work.

Behind it are a few principles I have thought all the way through.

Proof of work, not audience-farming. Trust should rest on real work. Every demo carries its own hook and depends on no follower count. The portfolio itself is the brand asset — the site you are reading is its display layer.

Breadth before depth (for the first 12 months). No betting on a single direction. Dozens of small apps probe the market, and paying signals tell me where real demand lives. There is exactly one north-star metric: does any demo trigger a genuine paying signal — a price inquiry, a pre-order, an inbound commission? The moment one appears, new demos stop and everything goes all-in on that one.

Look up at the market before looking down at code. Every demo must pass cold validation before a line is written. I have paid the tuition of "build it first" — the more polished the build, the more touching the sunk cost.

Cadence over perfection. Shipping at 80 beats polishing at 100.

Software is the probe; the moat lies outside the demo. Any demo's software layer will be flattened by general-purpose models within months — that is a feature, not a bug. So before starting, every demo must answer: if this earns a paying signal, what non-software asset can it deepen into? A vertical community, a case library, category judgment, a brand, proprietary data. No answer, no build.

Psychological stability over short-term cash flow. Creativity is a one-person company's only capital; when the rhythm collapses, everything does. Independence, remote work and choosing my own problems are not indulgences — they are this business's infrastructure.

This site will keep recording every demo's process — the judgment, the approach, the outcome, including the failures. If any of the work makes you want to talk, my door is open.
